The advancement of digital technologies has revolutionized the educational field, generating significant transformations in teaching and learning processes. The integration of electronic devices and ICT tools has enhanced access to information, collaboration, and autonomous learning among students. However, excessive or improper use may lead to negative effects such as anxiety, isolation, and poor academic performance. In contrast, controlled and pedagogically guided use fosters critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication. This research, with a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional approach, was conducted with a sample of 50 university students from the University of Guayaquil using structured questionnaires and interviews with teachers. The findings reveal that technology use improves skills and abilities but also demands attention to the digital divide and teacher training. Results indicate a high frequency of device use, especially in collaborative activities, although risks associated with overuse and lack of regulation persist. The pandemic intensified these trends, exposing both the opportunities and limitations of educational digitalization. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of integrating human values into the use of ICT to strengthen students’ comprehensive development. The research concludes that while technology is a powerful educational tool, its effectiveness depends on balanced, equitable, and ethically guided implementation. It is recommended that educational policies promote equal access, teacher training, and a conscious, meaningful use of digital resources to optimize their impact on learning outcomes and support inclusive, quality education.
