Digital Preservation Policy

Horizonte Científico International Journal (HCIJ) implements a range of strategies to ensure the long-term accessibility and preservation of digital objects hosted on its servers. These measures include:

  • Regular server and file backups to prevent data loss.

  • Continuous software updates and proactive planning for future technology migrations.

  • Systematic metadata management to support digital preservation.

  • Assignment of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to each published article, ensuring long-term traceability and citation.

  • Autonomous editorial management, minimizing reliance on external systems, data, or documentation.

  • Application of preservation strategies such as data refreshing, format migration, technology conservation, and digital archaeology, all of which are regularly evaluated for effectiveness.

Published files on this platform are available in accessible and widely used formats such as PDF and HTML.

HCIJ is part of the Private LOCKSS Network (PKP-PLN) of the Public Knowledge Project, which offers a decentralized and distributed archiving system supported by partner libraries. This network aims to build permanent archives of the journal’s content, preserving original materials and enabling restoration when necessary.

In addition, Editorial AG (Argentina), the publishing entity behind HCIJ, adheres to the policies of Open Abstracts and Open Citations, and is an active member of this collaborative editorial network.
