Horizonte Científico International Journal (HCIJ), a multidisciplinary biannual journal founded in January 2023, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of editorial quality in all its publications.

Crossmark is a multi-publisher initiative developed by Crossref to provide a standardized way for readers to identify the most current version of a scholarly document. HCIJ adheres to this initiative as part of its commitment to content integrity and timely communication of any post-publication updates.

Scientific research is an evolving process; therefore, articles may be enhanced or corrected after publication. With Crossmark, readers can verify whether the content they are consulting has been updated, corrected, or retracted. The Crossmark button—integrated into both online and downloadable PDF versions—ensures long-term traceability of content, even months or years after download.

By clicking the Crossmark button, readers gain access to the current status of the article, along with valuable metadata provided by HCIJ, including key editorial milestones (submission, peer review, acceptance), author ORCID identifiers, article type, plagiarism check status, funding information, licensing, peer review details, and research data availability.

Crossmark updates are categorized into minor and major changes.

Minor changes involve formatting corrections or typographical adjustments that do not affect the article’s scientific content or interpretation. In such cases, the Crossmark status remains unchanged, and no alert is issued to readers. This also applies to version control when revisions do not significantly alter the manuscript's substance.

Major changes, on the other hand, involve substantive modifications such as the retraction of an article due to serious errors or the addition/removal of authors. These updates alter the Crossmark status of the publication. In such instances, HCIJ publishes a correction or retraction notice with its own DOI, which remains freely accessible to ensure transparency and allow readers to review the nature of the changes made.
